![]() (ALL INFO IN THIS POST SUBJECT TO CHANGE TO BE IN COMPLIANCE WITH WPN REGULATIONS!) Saturday, JANUARY 31 AND Sunday, FEBRUARY 1! Not simply two days of prereleases, IMAGINE! has TWO FULL PRERELEASE EVENTS scheduled, with full support for both events. THE BIGGEST PRERELEASE EVENTS NORTH OF THE RIVER! ****If you are NOT familiar with the new way Prerelease events are being run, please read the info below. If you are already in the know, feel free to skip ahead to the "Meat & Taters" section.... Changes to Pre-Releases. You may or may not have heard about changes to the way Pre-Releases as a whole are run from this point on so I’ll run down the changes as they will affect events that are run at IMAGINE! Firstly, the Wizards Play Network has been introduced. This is a global look at organized play and as the Wizards web-site says “Within the network, organizers will be grouped by level, with increasing level denoting increased responsibility for event reporting, increased prize support, and increased freedom to run more prestigious content.” Currently there are three levels available: Gateway, Core and Advanced. IMAGINE! is proud to be one of only a very select few Arkansas venues that have earned the ‘Advanced’ level status for Magic the Gathering. Advanced level organizers can run Prerelease events on both days of the Prerelease weekend. For me, that means that I’ll be running as usual with an event at on Saturday and an event on Sunday. I won’t be running flights; I’ll just be running one main event as usual. No changes there. Now for the bit that does change. Booster drafts using the Prerelease product aren’t allowed on the Prerelease weekend anymore. Period. Violations of this policy can result in complete loss of sanctioning ability for 6 months or more, (even FNM) so we will NOT be taking that chance. This is a change that will affect some of you as in the past I have run two or three drafts per day after the main event has finished for those players that want to take part. This isn’t any longer an option so it means that the Prerelease weekend is all about the main events. I am able to run booster drafts, but with older product so I’ll be able to run a Shards or Lorwyn block draft for example if people wanted me to. Prize packs can be Conflux, however, so that's good news! (PS - there is a RUMOR that we will indeed be able to draft with Conflux as a sanctioned event. Should know for sure one way or another next week!) Finally for new players there is a new option available. Any new player [one that registers for a DCI number and has not played in organized events before] who doesn’t feel that they want to take part in the main sealed event will be able to purchase an Intro Pack [the new replacement for Theme Decks] and be able to play friendly duels with other new players or duels with players from the main event who have either finished their round or have the bye. The idea of this is that the new player doesn’t have to muddle through deck construction in the main event but can just come along, get an Intro Pack and get some tips from the more experienced players or judging staff playing friendly duels. If you already come along to my events and have played sanctioned events before, you aren’t really the target audience for this additional way to play so don’t worry about it. Please note that the Intro Packs themselves are not on general sale until the Release Events the following weekend. ********************** MEAT & TATERS! TIME Saturday Registration begins at 09:00 AM. Event starts at 10:30 Sunday Registration begins at 11:00 AM. Event starts at 12:30 TOURNAMENT FORMATS * Sealed Deck Tournament * Open Dueling Sealed Deck Tournaments use a Three packs of SHARDS OF ALARA and THREE CONFLUX BOOSTERS. More details as they develop, sign-up window is open NOW!! *********UPDATE********* Official word from WOTC, so this is the way, the truth, and the light. Some of you may balk at the idea of no tourney packs, the rest will accept and welcome this change... "Sealed Deck = 3 Shards of Alara boosters and 3 Conflux boosters per player. Booster Draft= 1 Shards of Alara booster and 2 Conflux boosters per player. Two-Headed Giant = 4 Shards of Alara boosters and 4 Conflux boosters per team." This is non-negotiable, but this DOES confirm side drafts! IMAGINE! will be ordering and receiving enough support for 108 players, minimum. IMAGINE! and The Daily Planet will be hosting the largest two events in Central Arkansas, and maybe the entire state! For those of you keeping score at home, that translates into over 600 boosters of Conflux, just for the prerelease. This does not count release event product... BRING ALL YOUR FRIENDS! IMAGINE! has a demo of the new WoW minis on hand, and it will be available Nov 8. at Arkansas States, for all who would like to check it out. Game play is somewhat similar to Clix-style games, excepting that the figs themselves have individual and semi-interchangable bases (U-Base), and the game is run on a "clock" mechanic. Turns are taken according to matching the figures "personal" clocks with the in-game clock (i.e. your fig can't take an action until the game clock and his personal clock match). Win condition is based on victory points, which are awarded at turns 5 & 10 if your character(s) are on or adjacent to the vp area, or by eliminating an opposing character (4 VPs). Characters re-spawn (ala Halo Clix) and re-enter play with a penalty, and play continues until one player achieves VPs equal to his team's build cost. Confusing enough? We haven't even discussed the Action Bar cards yet...tell ya what. Have a seat, I'll just show you. Or, perhaps both of our heads will just explode and we'll be done with it...
